Moneyhabits

UI-focused website design

Duration

December 12th, 2022 - December 29th 2022

Role

Sole UI/UX Designer

Project Background

Moneyhabits provides age based, interactive money lessons for children 10 -12 years old (5th and 6th grade). It is a 5 week interactive live course taught online via Zoom where children learn about personal finance. Parents pay a one time fee to enroll the children.

The Challenge

Moneyhabits is currently lacking a brand identity and digital experience for parents to learn about the program, sign up their children for a course and receive any educational resources. The children are lacking a digital experience to onboard the program and get their first lesson on Money 101.

Goal

Conduct visual research and analysis and use the resulting insights to develop brand attributes and artifacts

Assignment

  • Given the limited time frame within which to complete this project, I focused on one specialization: UI.

  • Arrive at meaningful decision for: Voice & Tone, Color, Typography, Button/Input Field Styles, Visuals & Iconography and Interface Design

Deliverables

  • Competitive Analysis

  • Style Guide

  • High-Fidelity Interface

Competitive Analysis

Created a robust market research table analyzing 6 direct competitors.

Topics I researched for each competitor:

  • Audience

  • Unique Features

  • Price

  • Competitive Advantage

  • Customer Reviews

  • Strengths

  • Weaknesses

Strengths and Weaknesses Overview:

Analysis Conclusion:

  • Each player has at least one unique quality/feature

  • A few players had some outdated UI which made their couse less attractive so we need to make sure our platform is modern and up to date

  • It’s important to build credibility and trust in this marketplace

  • Expand to different age groups to widen audience and increase revenue

  • Consider adding different formats so we can cater to different learning needs

  • Make homepage visually appealing and digestible for children/parents

Style Guide

Includes guidelines on mission/voice/tone, color palette, typography, button/input field styles, and visuals/iconography

High-Fidelity Interface

Task Scenario: Book free class then sign in to your account

Conclusion

How does the prototype solve the problem?

  • Creates a brand identity using unique color styles, graphics and tone

  • Builds trust through presenting backgrounds of teachers on homepage

  • Homepage intuitively summarizes how the program works and how to sign up

  • Creates a playful and easy digital experience

If I had more time…

  • Implement UX techniques (user research/interviews/testing)

  • Create additional task flows on the website (cancelling classes, signing up for a package, kids onboarding)

  • Create my own graphics on Figma

Takeaways and what I would do differently

  • Since the point of this project was to specialize on the focus that you are less confident in, I learned a lot about the UI process

  • I would utilize the same colors but make it a little less bright (more minimalist)

  • Change font weight choices and link color
